The thanksgiving weekend is coming up real quick for my fellow Canadians, this might mean being dragged to another province to see family. My aunty is getting married this weekend so we are making the drive down for that as well as thanksgiving celebrations. Once you get to your destination all is well, but it is the getting there that can be a hassle. Being crammed in the back of the car squished between siblings is pretty unideal. With that in mind I have thrown together a list of things that will make your next road trip a good one.
COMFY CLOTHES
Sitting in a car for several hours on end is not ideal, don't make it any worse by wearing something uncomfortable. Being comfortable is going to make the trip bearable, leggings and a sweatshirt will be your best friend. If you are not one to "dress down" then pick out your comfiest outfit that you dare wear out of the house. As long as you are comfy, it will do.
SNACKS AND DRINKS
The drive down to see my family is going to take eight hours... yes thats right, eight hours. When travelling for this long staying hydrated and field is so important, the last thing you want is to be hangry. Of course packing those junky, sugary, salty snacks seems like a great idea but the best food to pack is healthy foods. If you are snacking on something salty for the entirety of the trip you will be going through water so quickly. This means more pee breaks and more pee breaks means the trip is going to take longer and nobody wants that.
When packing your snacks try going for the snacks that will travel well, while also being high in protein, healthy carbohydrates and fats. If you have a cooler, then packing things like hardboiled eggs and fruits and veggies will be easy. If not, then I would highly recommend lara bars, not only are they good for you, but they are delicious. With ingredients you can pronounce, you wont feel guilty snacking on them during your trip.
Once you have proper fuel packed for your trip, make sure you have something to keep you hydrated. Like snacks, packing something sweet and salty and not the healthiest seems like a greta idea. However, your best bet is going to be to pack plenty of water, there aren't any scary ingredients hiding in there and if you spill you don't need to worry about staining.
ENTERTAINMENT
I am so envious of those people that can crash during car trips, I take gravel to help with motion sickness and I still wont be able to fall asleep. In order to survive long trips I need to keep myself entertained, this typically involves, music, podcasts and a book.
When it comes to listening to podcasts I love using Castbox, they have thousands of free downloadable podcasts. I can guarantee you will find something on there that catches your fancy. Right now I am listening to Kalyn's Coffee Talk and The Perfectionist Project with Sam Laura Brown. They are the perfect mixture of inspiring, entertaining and diverse, I will definitely have a couple of these downloaded to my phone.
I love music, if I am not listening to a podcast I will have my earbuds in listening to one of my playlists. One of the many benefits of being a student is spotify premiums student discount. Rather than spending $9.99 a month, you will only be spending $4.99, that is a great price for everything you get. Not only do you have the ability to make the perfect playlist, but you can also download your playlists and listen to them offline. If you are interested in any of my playlists, make sure you check them out on Spotify.
I hope you all enjoyed todays post, and if you have a road trip coming up you can use some of these little tips of mine. If you are going away this thanksgiving weekend I would love to know where you are heading.
