I am a firm believer that our environment plays a huge all in how we feel and how we go about our day. If you have a to-do its as long as your arm and limited time to them, a messy environment is the last thing you need. However not everyone has the luxury to spend all their time cleaning and making things perfect. I am happy to let you know, that you don't need a full day and a million different supplies to make your space feel perfect. Today i am going to go over my favourite tips and tricks for a speedy cleaning session. I will go over each major room in the house, and of course if you only have 10 minutes to spare then clean the one that needs the most love.
KITCHEN
I don't know about you, but in my house the kitchen is typically the messiest; there is always something going on in there. If you walk into your kitchen and it looks like a bomb has gone off, have no fear; imma tell you how to fix that!
1.) Empty and load the dishwasher
I am going to be 100% honest, as much as I love cleaning and being organized I am the worst for piling up dishes by the sink. So if you or someone else in your house is bad for this, then the best thing you can do is empty and load your dishwasher. This will move plenty of mess off the counter and out of sight, and if you are lucky and the dishwasher is full you can turn it on.
2.) Clean the sink
Remember those dishes we just stuck in the dishwasher? Well congratulations they just cleared up plenty of space in the dishwasher (yay)! Get you spray nozzle going, spray that bad boy down and rip out your antibacterial cleaner and got to town. I am a bit of a germaphobe, so I love cleaning the sink of any icky germs.
3.) Wipe the counters and table
Congratulations, your dishes are being cleaned in the dishwasher and your sinks now smell like cleaner! It is now time to tackle the counters, get yourself a wet rag or or an antibacterial wipe and get every single surface! Don't forget the table, there is nothing worse than sitting down for a meal and finding crumbs from the last meal you had!
4.) Wipe down your appliances
Just when you thought you couldn't possibly wipe down anything else it is time to clean your appliances. I am not saying you need to get out the titanium-chrome-fancy-schmancy polish, a warm wet cloth will do the trick!
BEDROOM
1.) Make your bed
I am a firm believer in the importance of making your bed each and every day, not only does it make your room look way cleaner, you'll also sleep better at night. If you don't have the time to put your fancy throw pillows on something as simple as pulling up the duvet can make a big difference.
2.) Pick up laundry
We are all guilty of this one, getting changed and just tossing our clothes on the ground and leaving them there. I swear the only mess my room really accumulates is clothing, it is everywhere and I just don't understand. So if you are like me and your floor is covered in clothes, just pick them up and toss them in the hamper, it takes five seconds.
3.) Take out everything that doesn't belong in there
I somehow accumulate a lot of crap in my room that really doesn't belong in there. More often than not I do the walk of shame from my room to the kitchen with 500+ water bottles and cups.
BATHROOM
I share a bathroom with my little sister, this means that nine times out of then it is an absolute mess. I am talking toothpaste globs in the sink and water splotches on the mirror no matter how often I clean. This has made the master of speedy five minute cleaning sessions throughout the day.
1.) Clean the toilet
You guys I swear my toilet is working against me, it will ne so white and clean and shiny then the next day it is disgusting. Please tell me this happens to everyone else, because I swear I keep that thing clean, then all the sudden it isn't. So, when it comes to tackling your bathroom, start by squirt your toilet cleaner in the toilet and let it sit while you clean everything else. By the time everything else is clean all you have to do is wipe down the toilet and you are good to go.
2.) Wipe the sink
Unfortunately for me, I have to share a bathroom with my little sister, this means there is always toothpaste goop in the sink. I cannot handle the globs of toothpaste in the sink so this typically calls for a daily wipe down in the morning and before bed. If you don't have the time to actually wipe the sink, run some hot hot water and cross your fingers. This should lift up some of the toothpaste that accumulates.
3.) Put anything on the counter away
As I mentioned before, I share a bathroom with my little sister, so there is always something on the counter. I might have cleaned the counter five seconds prior, but as soon as I walk back in the room there will be something on it. The best way to make the space feel tidy is to remove everything form the counters that doesn't belong on them.
LIVING ROOM
I absolutely love my living room, I still live at home and after having lived in the same house for 17 yeas. This last year my parents gave our living room a bit of a facelift and it is now my favourite room in the entire house. Unfortunately it is everyone else favourite so it can accumulate a lot of mess.
1.) Straighten out pillows and blankets
When my mom was picking out new pillows and blankets for the living room she may have gone a bit overboard. Kidding, you can never have too many pillows or blankets, but in all seriousness these do get messed up quite often. I like to go around give the pillows a quick fluff and will refold the blankets and out them ver the chairs nicely.
2.) Quick dust
Every accent piece in our living room is black, this unfortunately shows the dust really well, especially when the sun hits it just right. I will go through with a microfibre cloth and do a quick sweep of the living room and the difference is incredible.
3.) Put anything that doesn't belong in the living room away
My family spends a lot of time together in the living room, this brings in a lot of unnecessary messes. Every time that I see something in the living room that doesn't belong I will either go put it in whoever room it belongs in or put it away.
I hope you all enjoyed todays post about tidying up, there is nothing worse than needing to tidy but feeling like you just don't have the time. I have some minor surgery booked for this Friday so I have had to be very productive this last week in preparation. Everything is tidy, and all my assignments are ready to be handed in so I can spend my weekend recovering and not stressing over cleaning.
